The Bay Team recently broadcasted Darren Milby's show from The Lancaster City Centre Criteriums, its a city centre cycle race on the cobbles around Lancaster, LC3 kicked off with the Lancaster Youth Grand Prix for youth only category A&B, then the Dalton Square Cobbled Classic for regional B, 3rd and 4th Category riders and women. Finally it was the Lancaster City Centre Criterium, sponsored by United Utilites, National B for Elite 1st,2nd and 3rd Category riders.
Criterium racing - or crit for short- is a multi-lap race on closed roads around a town centre. They have been popular for years in parts of europe, especially Holland, Belgium and Northern France. More recently crits have become the most popular form of cycle racing in the US.
The attractions of crits for spectators are that the riders pass many times during the race, our Lancaster circuit is just under a kilometre long and the riders will be lapping in about a minute. The LC3 circuit on the streets behind Dalton Square feature short sharp climbs, quick sudden drops and corners as quick as you like
The area around Dalton Square was alive with spectators and riders, Suzi and Ruth, the guys from Lancaster Unlimited BID joined Darren, Amy and The Bay Team in The Bay gazebo to enjoy the racing. We all had a fablous evening, if you missed out take a look through our photo gallery below and hopefully come along to LC4 in 2015, see you there!
