Love Barrow Community Awards 2014

The Bay and The North West Evening Mail supported The Love Barrow Community Awards 2014. In association with Vattenfall The Love Barrow Awards recognised the people and groups that make the borough special at a glittering invite-only ceremony at The Forum, in Duke Street. Organisers were amazed by the standard of nominations this year and judges struggled in narrowing the final down to a shortlist of just 24.

The winners in the various categories were:

Carer of the Year - Matylda (Tilly) Kenny.  Finalists - Jeff Holt/Gemma Moorby (category sponsored by Cumbria Clinical Commisioning Group)

Teacher of the Year - Graham Barker. Finalists - Caroline Hoggarth, Kerry Griffin (category sponsored by Patient Memoirs)

Sports Volunteer  of the Year - Stephen Cairns. Finalists - KANJI-DO Karate Club, Russ Walker. (category sponsored by Siemens)

Environmental Volunteer of the Year - Barrow's Wildside (Sue Thurley). Finalists - Morecambe Bay Partnership (Susannah Bleakley) (category sponsored by Vattenfall).

Courage - Andrew Madden. Finalist - Barrow RNLI. (category sponsored by Furness College).

Young Citizen of the Year -  Jacob McSweeney. Finalists - Harrison Holmes, James Cox. (category sponsored by SDG Accountants)

Community Group / Project of the Year - Barrow Foodbank. Finalists - Leonard Cheshire, Walney Wind Cheetahs. (category sponsored by Turnstone HR) 

Citizen of the Year  - Joan Milburn / Irene Crabtree. Finalists - Les McLeese, Darren McSweeney (category sponsored by Furness Building Society)
