SKATE PARK

A group of young people are hoping plans to revamp a skate park in Kendal will get the go ahead today after they raised 60 thousand pounds to help pay for it.

They want to put new ramps and fencing at the park at Beezon Fields.

Councillors will meet later to decide whether to give the group the extra ten thousand pounds they need.

That's money left over from a fund for improvement work which has already been finished at another skate park.

PLAY AREA

Designs for a possible new play park in Caton have been unveiled.

The area at Fell View is currently fenced off as it's too dangerous to use.

The scheme would cost £181,000 if plans get approved, and most of the money has already been secured.

LUCKY LAD

A Morecambe youngster's going to spend a day training with former England Rugby Campaign Lawrence Dallaglio.

Alisha Kasam-Sharples won a place at the national training session in Twickenham this June, at the Rugby Festival at Vale of Lune yesterday, having impressed coaches with high levels of sportsmanship, discipline and respect.

FLOOD WORKSHOP

Researchers at Lancaster University are looking at ways to help Cumbria recover from the floods of November last year.

They have previously been involved in research into other disasters like foot and mouth disease in 2001 and will work with organisations to see how research could help with the recovery.

A series of smaller events will also give the community a chance to have their input.

WANNABE A COUNCILLOR?

People who have thought about standing as a councillor in Lancaster are being asked what's stopping them from having a go.

The City Council's consultation on what's putting people off from standing for a seat ends at the end of the month.

New city councillors will be voted for next year, for 2011 to 2015.

BRITAIN'S BEST DRIVE

"Britain's Best Drive" has been given a clean up.

Ahead of the summer season, Cumbria Tourism's teamed up with Cumbria Highways to spruce up road signs along a 30 mile stretch between Kendal and Keswick.

The A591 is the only road to run right through the heart of the Lake District, and has been voted the best drive in Britain - and among Europe's top three.

MANNA HOUSE

South Lakeland's MP has revealed he is accepting his annual pay-rise.

But, he's giving it straight to the Kendal based charity for the homeless, Manna House.

Tim Farron says if the cash is available, he'd rather see it go to charity, than not accept it and have it swallowed up by the Government elsewhere.
